Fishing TIps from the Vice Pres

TIP:

Lake trout otherwise known as the fresh water marlin can be serious fun and sport. It's important to understand that these elusive beasts can be scarce but then turn on in an instant! The most important part of lake trout fishing because of the above fact is have a minimum BAC level of .1. This will allow you to enjoy the day while not catching anything.

Secondly, make sure you have the right equipment. The fish finder is essential. These fish dive deep so you need a finder to locate them. Once you do, circle them with your trolling motor non stop until you trigger a hit. Once hooked up, take all sport out it and horse it in so you and your partners can get another one immediately. Also, if your BAC continues to rise, switch over to dead herring. This allows you to simply drift there while the lake trout sees bait they can't resist! When feeling a tug on your line, jerk as hard as you can to ensure the proper hook up!

If you have no luck during the day, make sure you head back to camp and set up for night fishing! Most other tips will say to fish at first light and dusk. However, we know better. Set up your pole with a circle hook so you don't need to be conscious when a fish bites your line. Throw a dead herring on the bottom and simply walk away. This allows you be as patient as possible while continuing to work on that BAC level! Check the line once before bed and again in the morning. Chances are you will have a dead trout to reel in majestically in the morning. Stay tuned for next weeks "tips for killing burbot"
