Well Boys.... assuming that there is not a layer of ice on the lake we will be conducting our annual fishing tournament again. Congrats to Ted on winning the 2012 "The One" trophy and Joey and Carl for repeating as champs of "The Banjo and Ziggy". The trophies went out for engraving yesterday and will be ready in plenty of time for the trip.
We here at the tournament committee have received some suggestions on potential new rules for the tournament. We want to get your input. As you all know the fishing has been a bit slow the past 2 years. I am anticipating a huge turn around in 2013 as we get to know the lake and upgraded some technology. The late ice out time should help us as well.
So here is what has been suggested. Please let me know your thoughts and provide other suggestions as well.
Current Rules (summarized):
#1. "The One" is given to the fisherman who catches and weighs the heaviest Lake trout for the week. Must be caught on the boat.
#2. The Banjo and Ziggy is given to the team of 2 fisherman (Teams drawn Friday prior to the trip) that their total weight (Top 5 boat caught and weighed lake trout per fisherman) outweigh the other teams totals. If a team has 3 fisherman because of numbers each fisherman will record their top 5 lake trout. The biggest trout among the members must count all trout caught by that team member. The other 2 members will use their 2 heaviest and 2 lightest and the average other. Teams must not weigh out more than 10 trout but can weigh less.
#3. Tournament runs Sunday 12AM to Friday at 9 PM
Proposed Changes:
#1 Dock trout should be counted as long as they are caught and weighed?
#2 If Dock trout count only 1 or 2 should be counted toward your top 5 trout?
#3 The "One" can be a dock trout.
#4 A team with 3 should be allowed to just average out the top 15 trout (Top 5 / fisherman)
#5 Tournament should not have start or finish times. Just whenever and where ever.
#6 Use a 5 dollar / member pool for the One Trophy as well.
OK guys... send some comments and we can consider all ideas. Remember we went to this format to make it competitive, fun, and traditional. I think we have accomplished this, but if there are any ideas you have please let the tournament committee know! Talk with you all soon. We will release final 2013 rules in the next few days.

How about mechanical advantage? How does that fit in?
OFFICIAL TOURNAMENT COMMITEE RESPONSE TO MECHANICAL ADVANTAGE:
Any fisherman choosing to invest in the advancement of legal fishing gear (other than drag net) is not subject to alternative rules. Such as no fisherman catching a lake trout with a sharpened stick or thrown rock will receive extra credit.
However, we will be testing for performance enhancing drugs this year.
I like all the new proposed rules except for only allowing 1 or 2 dock trout. I say all lake trout count that are cought during the entire trip.
Question: What if someone casts a pole off the dock (Jody) and someone else lands it (John) because the person's whose pole it is is incompasitated (passed out drunk). Does the fish still belong to the owner of the pole?
Ok Good point on the dock fish. Here is my thought. Any and all dock fish can count toward your top 5. However, the fisherman must be actively checking their pole. In other words casting it out and falling asleep to check it in the morning is not considered actively checking (We have to bring some sportsmanship to this). If you see another fishermans pole that you feel has a hit, the fisherman must be informed. The fisherman that sees the pole is free to hook up and fisht the fish until said fisherman arrives. That fish will count toward the fishermans whos pole is in the water, as long as they were engaged in active participation.
